47.World Chess Solving Championship (WCSC)
The 47th World Chess Problem Solving Championship took place on 30/31 July in Jūrmala, Latvia, during the annual World Chess Composition Congress.
The winner was Great Britain with the two game grandmasters John Nunn and Johnathan Mestel as well as the young David Hodge. This was the sixth victory for the British team and the first since 2007. Thanks to the shorter solving time, the British were able to narrowly relegate the serial winners from Poland to 2nd place with the same number of points. Israel came third, just ahead of Germany and Lithuania.
The winner of the individual classification and thus world champion was the Pole Kacper Piorun (also his sixth title win), one point ahead of John Nunn and the surprising Greek Nikos Sidiropoulos, who achieved a GM Norm with this brilliant result.
John Nunn won the senior category ahead of the two Israelis Ofer Comay and Lev Glanzspiegel. Ilija Serafimovic (Serbia) won the junior category ahead of Kevinas Kuznezovas (Lithuania) and Chinguun Sumiya (Mongolia). Anna Lickova (Czech Republic), aged just 12, won the women’s event ahead of Laura Rogule (Latvia) and Denisa-Andreea Bucur (Romania).
